Natalie Kennedy - FilmMaker

Filmmaking is a passion.  It is not just a job, it is a way of life that is all encompassing.  I work in many areas of the media and do not believe that the expression "jack of all trades, master of none" can really be applied anymore.  Though my primary focus is on directing films I work in many other areas, ensuring a strong knowledge of the workings of both the filmic and corporate sector in various roles.  This means I can take on any job that is required of me, often at short notice, and without the need for intense preparation.

I started acting at a young age, which led me to explore other creative outlets as my interest grew.  I performed in, wrote, produced, and directed plays.  I took a keen interest in photography and music, until I finally found my way into film.  I studied a BA in media performance at the University of Salford, achieving a first class honours degree.  During this time I worked on various corporate projects, gaining much experience in the process and even receiving a divisional commissioners award from the Greater Manchester Police for work I performed on a crime safety documentary for them in conjunction with the company Winning Ways  I went on to work on a number of feature films in various capacities, including assistant director and cinematographer on films that were received at various festivals respectively, including Cannes Film Festival Screener (Wallpaper), the Action on Film Festival in Los Angeles (The Dinner Party, nominated for two awards), Radio Gets Wild (The Dinner Party, winner best soundtrack), Killer Film Festival (Bicycle Day, winner of various awards and multiple nominations), Worcestershire Film Festival and Sheffield Film Festival (Bicycle Day, official selection).

Since having my son I have focused my attention on my directing career and furthering my education by undertaking a degree at Masters level, again at the University of Salford.  My first short film as a director, SHED, for my company StormMaker Pictures, was very well received, gaining festival success and excellent reviews.  I have since finished my second short film project, Trauma, again as a StormMaker Pictures production, which has started doing the rounds on the festival circuit and has been well received so far.  I have since completed another short film project, Doris, as Rainmaker Pictures and it has already been shortlisted for the Kino Exposed Film Festival.  I have a number of short film projects in development and will soon be undertaking my first feature film project as director, something I am very excited about.  My current project, the tv pilot Beneath the Waters of Llyn Coch, is in development with the talented producer, Rebecca-Clare Evans, bringing a Welsh folk tale to the screen.
